The Fraunhofer–Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. is an autonomous research organization with a decentralized organizational structure, which currently maintains 60 research institutes operating from different locations in 15 of the German states. A staff of approximately 12,500 works with an annual research budget of about 1.2 billion Euros. The Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT) is one of the pioneers within the field of IT–Security in Germany and Europe and has experience in development and promotion of security technologies and in embedding of security technologies into already established applications to make them trustworthy. The working areas of the about 165 employees range from basic applied research and development of prototypes to product testing, customizing and implementing tailored security concepts and solutions.

SIT has worked and is working in a number of projects that are particularly relevant for ASSERT4SOA. These include the FP7 project SERENITY (IST–027587), in which SIT, among other work, developed a language for the specification of abstract S&D properties and for proving relations between these, and FP7 project EVITA (IST–224275) where SIT was working on a security and trust mode for solutions within the context of electronic control units for cars. Furthermore, SIT is part of the ADiWa Consortium. In the scope of this project SIT is concentrating on security modeling and predictive security evaluation of the security status of dynamic processes in the context of smart objects.
